Lens-Saver.com – A daily blog focused on eye care and contact lens brand comparisons. Not too long ago, we completed a project that’s a blog focused on eye care articles and contact lens brand comparisons and reviews. Our challenge for this project was to create a professional and easy to maintain website that encouraged visitors to contribute and leave comments while at the same time making it easy for the owner to keep up to date. We also wanted the site to be search engine friendly, so it performed well in search indexes such as Google.

Our Approach

We approached the design of the Lens Saver from two directions. First, the site had to be easy to maintain and publish new articles. We decided that WordPress was an ideal package for the site and would accomplish this goal while at the same time providing a rich community of plug-in and support. Secondly, the site had to encourage contributions from visitors. To do this, we decided to use a modified version of the traditional WordPress commenting system to not only provide a means for users to make comments, but also allow them to contribute via ratings and updates (in the case of out dated information on a specific brand).

Our Expertise

To complete our objective, we used WordPress and a modified version of an existing template to build the entire Lens Saver website. In addition, we modified many of the traditional posting elements to a WordPress site to make this one appear to be more of a resource rather than a traditional blog. We incorporated AJAX and JavaScript elements to ensure the site was simple to use and navigate for visitors and also to add visual styles that made the site more appealing to the average visitor. On the administration side, we built a suite of tools and plug-ins that allow the site to be maintained with current prices and coupons conveniently and without having to modify any of the site’s HTML code. This makes it simple to keep the site moving forward from one month to the next.

Our Results

This site is very new, but we’ve been told that the users are pleased with the results. Already, this site is generating a ton of traffic due to our Search Engine Optimization techniques and also the site’s overall appearance which encourages users to repeat visit and contribute. We accomplished every single one of the objectives set out for this project and we hope it continues to perform well and goes on to be a huge success within the eye health community.
